Congolese Contemplation

The focal point of this digital composite is a carving from a 2019 exhibition at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, "Congo Masks: Masterpieces from Central Africa". I was struck by the carving's similarities to images of Buddha: heavy-lidded eyes, protruding ears, and circular symbol on the forehead. The circular symbol is repeated on each cheek. As a student of energy healing, I recognized those facial three points as significant in EFT (emotional freedom techniques) or tapping. Geometric patterns in African textiles inspired the mandala in the lower right. Since many of the masks in the VMFA exhibit incorporated dried grasses, I included some into the background. Shown below are two photos from the exhibition and the final composite.
